The Need

The Need

The American Detection Dog Foundation was established to address America’s National Security's lack of a working dog breeding program in the United States. American agencies throughout the nation currently import dogs at an estimated rate of 85% or higher from other countries in order to meet their working dog needs. These dogs are instrumental in preventing human trafficking, assisting in the safety of our country by detecting explosives and narcotics, and safeguarding the environment by protecting endangered animals and identifying invasive species prior to entering our country.

During this worldwide pandemic, working dogs were not readily available to be imported to the United States due to transportation restrictions. This posed a significant risk to our nation’s security as detection dogs numbers declined.
